Will Carmichael of BeSure1st is Certified by the National Radon Proficiency Program and InterNACHI to conduct Radon Testing.
BeSure1st Home Inspections uses advanced pulse mode ionization equipment, the Radstar Alpha 516, to get the most accurate measurements possible and the results are available immediately upon the completion of the radon test. There is no waiting for a lab to return the test days later.
As a young Sergeant in the US Army, I was trained as a Nuclear warfare technician. I first learned to measure radiation in 1972.
The EPA action level of of 4.0 is equivalent to smoking eight cigarettes per day.
Radon is a Class-A human carcinogen and it is the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers and is especially harmful if you smoke. Radon is produced from the natural radioactive decay of uranium, which is found in all rocks and soil.
There is no safe level of radon. A Radon Test is the only way to know.
All homes should have a Radon Test
Regardless of geographic location or foundation type radon is a problem. No matter where you live in Tennessee, there is the potential for radon to enter your home. Regardless of your zone designation or geographic location, all homes should be tested for radon. There is no zone that has no risk factor for radon.
Davidson County (Nashville), Wilson County, and Rutherford County are all located in the EPA Zone 1 Risk classification for Radon. The only way to know if it is in your home is to test for it.
YES.
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) considers radon to be a very serious problem in our state. As radon gas breaks down, it emits high-energy alpha particles. These particles are in the air we breathe, and once inhaled, they can be deposited in our lungs. The energy associated with these particles can alter cell DNA, thus increasing the risk of lung cancer.
Persons who smoke and live in a home with elevated radon levels are at a very high risk to develop lung cancer.
It's easier to fix radon than it is to fix lung cancer.
To avoid any conflict of interest, BeSure1st does not mitigate radon in homes. However, we will be happy to help you find a list of contractors if we discover a high level of radon that requires action.
A Radon Test is the only way to know if you are being exposed to harmful radiation.
